High School on SI has already published two updates to their Boys and Girls National Rankings for the 2026/2027 rankings period.
The first set of rankings was essentially just removing graduating seniors with everyone still at their Fargo weight classes or the last weight class they appeared when in action over the spring and summer.
The second set was when the wrestlers were moved around to reflect their likely weight classes. The second girls update placed the ladies around their Super 32 registered weights. The third update for the boys will factor in Super 32 registrations and Elite 8 Rosters.
THE BOYS
The highest ranked boy that still wrestles in Maryland is Corey Brown (Chesapeake – AA) who was ranked sixth at 120 pounds in the first rankings after seniors were removed. Brown was moved to 126 pounds in the subsequent update and placed in the number eight spot. The junior remains No. 8 at 126 in the third report.
Brown’s former Mt. St. Joseph teammate, Brooklyn Pickett, is the next highest rated Marylander coming in at No. 7 at 157 pounds in the first draft, then moving to. No. 8. After going over Super 32 entries, Pickett is up to 165 pounds where he will be ranked No. 8 nationally.
The Bullis School’s Noah Tucker started at No. 10 in the 175-pound rankings. In the second update, Tucker was No. 11. Slated for 190 pounds at Elite 8, Tucker has been moved to that weight class and comes in at No. 8.
Loyola-Blakefield’s Tyler Verceles started at 120 pounds and still sits in those rankings. After beginning as the No. 18 guy, Verceles moved to No. 15. Elite 8 and Super 32 weights have moved five big guns into 120 pounds, pushing the junior down to the number 20 position in the upcoming third update.
Archbishop Spalding’s Eli Gabrielson has risen with each subsequent report, as he came in at No. 26 on the first list, then gained two spots to No. 24. In the third update, the senior is up to No. 23 at 126 pounds.
During the summer, around the time of the National Duals, the Legacy Wrestling crew remarked to one another that Mt. St. Joe’s Tyler Stephens was close to cracking the national rankings. The senior’s Fargo showing elevated him to national status. Stephens’ ranking experience has been similar to Gabrielson as he has risen at 144 pounds with each update. After Fargo, Stephens was No. 27, then No. 26, and in the third report – No. 23.
Although he’s off at Blair Academy during the season, Salah Tsarni is still one of ours when it comes down to it. Tsarni has been the top-rated 190-pounder in the first two rankings. California’s Mario Carini is making the move to 190 pounds and beat Tsarni at Super 32 a year ago in the third-place match, so he takes over the number one spot, forcing Tsarni to number two.
THE GIRLS
Four ladies have a place in National Report – Archbishop Spalding’s Taina Fernandez and Summer Mutschler, Bullis’ Kesi Tsarni, and Brunswick’s Katharine Virgilio.
Fernandez has been and will be number one amongst the ladies at any weight she desires. She registered at 148 pounds for Super 32, so High School on SI left her as the top girl at 145 pounds. The senior will face New Jersey’s Ella Poalillo, the number one 155-pounder, at Flo’s Who’s #1.
Tsarni won her 16U Fargo National Crown at 140 pounds and was ranked 8th there. Going over her history, Tsarni spent a lot more time at 145 pounds than she did at 140. In the second girls’ national rankings, Tsarni comes in at No. 9 at 145 pounds.
Mutschler was ranked seventh at 110 pounds when the first rankings were revealed. When the second update dropped, Mutschler moved up one more slot to No. 6.
Virgilio was a Honorable Mention entry at 120 pounds following Fargo. In the most recent update, Virgilio is in the numbers now, sitting in the 29th spot.
