2025 - 2026 Maryland Wrestling Rankings (Archives Edition)
Our third season at Legacy Wrestling is in the books, and it was our best yet. Archbishop Spalding finished the year as the #1 team in Maryland, with Mount St. Joseph and McDonogh rounding out a powerhouse private-school top three. It was particularly tight because McDonogh beat Spalding in the head-to-head dual meet but lost to Mount St. Joseph. And of course, MSJ lost to Spalding in their match-up. The top three were that close! South Carroll once again stood tallest among the public schools at #4, with Walt Whitman and Middletown right behind. In D.C., St. John’s College claimed the top spot, edging out last year’s #1 Gonzaga, with Washington Latin, HD Woodson, and Jackson-Reed close behind.
This was a season of repeat champions. Tyler Verceles, Eli Gabrielson, Noah Tucker, and Victor Marks-Jenkins in Maryland, Zane Messiter, Morgan Lloyd, Jet Ward, Bojan Sulc, and Randall Ayaba in D.C., and Summer Mutschler, Katherine Virgilio, Madison Birth, and Taina Fernandez on the girls’ side all finished the year ranked #1 for the second straight season.
Our freshman class arrived ready to compete, led by Charles Cooper in Maryland, Billy McMurtrie in D.C., and Elana Pelaez and Natalia Jimenez among our top female wrestlers. Our sophomore class was loaded, with Charlie Mutschler, Tyler Verceles, and Brooklyn Pickett in Maryland, Zane Messiter, Braxton Bohinc, and Lucian James in D.C., and Summer Mutschler and Katherine Virgilio representing our top female wrestlers. Rounding out our returning class is a strong group of juniors who come back next year as seniors, all with one more season to prove they are still the champs to chase. Congratulations to our top-ranked Maryland juniors Eli Gabrielson, Landen Vercoe, Logan Brown, and Noah Tucker, along with our top returning female juniors Madison Birth, Irie Carmack, Amari Purnell, Taina Fernandez, and Jariah Washington.
