CHESAPEAKE WINS AA COUNTY

Seventh-ranked host Chesapeake crowned two-timers in 11th-ranked sophomore Quinn Greenstreet (113) and 15th-ranked junior Rex Graves (144), 18th-ranked senior Owen Collins (165) improved on his fourth-place finish of a year ago, and second-ranked sophomore Corey Brown (132) and 13th-ranked senior Gavin Lewis (215) earned their first Anne Arundel County Tournament titles on Saturday.

They also had runners-up in eighth-ranked senior Brayden Roberts (138), ninth-ranked sophomore Carson Roberts (126), 19th-ranked junior Dean Michael (190) and freshman Hunter Wargo (106), with third-place efforts from seniors Trevor Webb (157) and Collin Richardson (175) as the Cougars (265 points) overcame 11th-ranked second-place South River (170) for their program's second straight and fifth overall county tournament title, including those in 1980, 2002 and 2022.

On February 14, Randy Curtin guided the Cougars (25-4) to a 46-25 Class 3A state dual meet championship triumph over South River at North Point High School in Waldorf.

The Cougars earned the state dual crown for the third time since 2022, when they ran the table for the county dual meet and tournament titles along with the Class 3A state duals championship. Chesapeake defeated South River, 42-34, in 2022, and scored 257 points to win that year’s county tournament.

Graves improved his record on the year to 25-7 with 12 pins and five technical falls as a returning regional runner-up who was sixth at last year's Class 4A-3A state tournament.

Greenstreet has a record on the year of 29-8 with eight pins and 11 technical falls after having finished first at regions and third at Class 4A-3A states last year.

Brown is a transfer from second-ranked Mount St. Joseph where he earned a Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association title. Brown has a record of 16-0 with nine pins and two technical falls. Lewis is 33-3 with 31 pins and two technical falls, and Collins, 31-7 with 15 pins and five technical falls.

"The boys wrestled really hard last weekend. We were hoping to get nine in the finals and at least five champions, and that's exactly what we got," said Curtin, in his 11th-year as head coach. "Those nine finalists obviously did really well. They really got after it. Gavin didn't wrestle most of last year. Collin Richardson and Trevor Webb lost their first matches and wrestled back really strong all the way to third place."
