Stephen Decatur’s fourth-ranked senior Nate McDaniel (215) dethroned Rising Sun’s 12th-ranked senior Elijah Farr, 11-9, in Saturday’s Class 2A-1A East Region title bout and was among the 17th-ranked Seahawks’ five champions at Queen Anne’s High.

McDaniel used falls in 62 and 85 seconds to reach the championship match against Farr, who was eight days from having earned his fourth straight Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference crown.

Farr has a record of 34-3, was after his fourth consecutive regional title, and is looking to improve on his third, fifth and sixth place finishes at the Class 2A-1A state tournament next weekend at The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro.

McDaniel raised his record on the year to 40-1, his 85-second semifinal pin over 14th-ranked North Caroline senior Arif Mohammadi being a rematch of their previous weekend’s Bayside Conference title match where McDaniel pinned Mohammadi in 1:44.

Joining McDaniel on the victory podium were second-ranked junior Elijah Collick (126), fifth-ranked senior Juan Hinojosa (113), 17th-ranked senior Amarian Manuel (157) and 24th-ranked senior Jake Saullo (144), all of whom were a week away from winning Bayside Championship championships.

A two-time Class 2A-1A state champion whose record on the year is 43-1, Collick secured technical falls by scores of 19-3, 19-4 and 18-1, the last over Queen Anne’s junior Landon Shanks, whose record is now 38-3

Hinojosa has a record of 38-4 following a pair of 20-4 victories by technical fall, the last over 17th-ranked senior Zaden Tablan of Harford Tech, an UCBAC champion whose record is 36-3.

Manuel raised his record on the year to 20-3 following a 19-4 technical fall, a 7-6 semifinal victory over 24th-ranked senior Rocco Tully of Parkside, and an 8-3 decision over Bohemia Manor senior Josh Allen.

Tully finished third at the previous weekend’s Bayside Conference and finished third at regions, and Allen was an UCBAC runner-up and has a record of 32-4.

Saullo earned three technical falls comprising those in 20-4, 18-1 and 16-0, the last over ninth-ranked senior Nikolai Chervak, an UCBAC champion.

North Caroline crowned 15th-ranked senior Corey Bunce (190) and juniors Darly Ortega (106), Connor Frank (120), with all three having been Bayside champions the weekend before.

Bunce ran his record on the year to 39-0, scoring a 61-second pin before requiring consecutive 4-2 decision victories over Snow Hill junior Cameron Miller in the semifinal and Kent Island sophomore Zach Bunce.

Miller defeated Zach Bunce, 5-4, for third place in the previous weekend’s Bayside Conference, where Corey Bunce defeated Parkside senior Devin Szewczyk by 20-5 technical fall in the finals.

Miller was pinned in 1:58 of Saturday’s consolation semifinals by Szewczyk, who finished third at regions.

Ortega won three bouts by 26-second fall and scores of 20-6 and 14-4, the latter against North East freshman Caiden Hickey in the championship match.

Frank used technical falls of 16-0 and 19-3 to reach the finals, where he earned a 12-2 major decision over Parkside senior Cameron Greene.

North East had a pair of champions in ninth-ranked senior Jahaan Fields (175) and 16th-ranked senior Mason Boyd (150), each of whom were runners-up in the UCBAC conference.

Fields improved his record on the year to 35-5 by using falls in 72 seconds and 3:52 to reach the finals, where he won by 12-5 decision over Harford Tech junior Luke Dallaire.

Boyd earned a 43-second fall and scored a 19-3 technical fall before earning a 13-3 major decision over 22nd-ranked junior Scottie Ford of Kent County High School.

Boyd raised his season mark to 39-3 by defeating Ford, a Bayside champion whose record slipped to 27-2.

Rising Sun’s second-ranked junior Zach Garvin (165) improved to 39-1 following a 27-second pin, a 20-4 technical fall and a title match fall in 1:49 over Snow Hill senior German Alvarez, a Bayside champion.

Garvin’s 20-4 technical fall was against Stephen Decatur junior Braydon Bell, a Bayside Conference runner-up who finished third at regions.

Garvin improved on last year’s regional runner-up effort and looks to do the same regarding last season’s fifth place finish at states.

Dontray Fuller (285) of 42nd-ranked Parkside added the regional crown to his Bayside Conference title from the previous weekend, improving his record on the year to 19-3.

Fuller had falls in 4:42, 5:05 and 3:47, the last against Stephen Decatur sophomore Price Hall, whom he decked a week earlier in 3:56 of the Bayside Conference title match.

Colonel Richardson sophomore Evan Alexander (138) used a 14-2 major decision and a 19-3 technical fall to reach the finals, where he won, 6-3, in overtime against 23rd-ranked senior Adam August of Stephen Decatur.

Alexander had lost, 6-5, in the previous weekend’s Bayside Conference title match against August, whose record slipped to 34-4.

Another Bayside runner-up was Kent Island junior Silas Brobst (132), who used three decisions to win his regional crown. Brobst won decisions of 12-7 and 9-2 before winning his championship match, 7-2, over Harford Tech senior Nathan Denham.
