RESULTS: MSWA Queen Anne's Qualifier (16U)

The final Maryland State Wrestling Association Freestyle and Greco Roman Qualifier occurred on Sunday May 3rd at Queen Anne’ County High School on the Eastern Shore. The locale provided a new mix of talent with only a handful of wrestlers having competed in other qualifiers.

These were qualifiers for the Olympic Style States (FRECO) that is coming on May 16th at Mount Saint Joseph High School in Catonsville.

The 16U slate saw three grapplers earn golds in both disciplines – Charles Cooper (Warhawks Wrestling), Thomas B Bradford (Landon), and Max Solis (Unattached).

Cooper collected his Freestyle honors in the 106/113-pound round robin brackets where he defeated second place Jaden Uhde (McDonald Wrestling Academy, DE) with a 7-4 decision. DeMatha’s Julian McCrimmon was third, falling to Cooper, 10-3. Cooper’s Greco Glory came on a 5-0 decision of Uhde at 113/120 pounds.

McCrimmon won a Greco Roman title at 106 pounds when he swept Northwest Elite’s Dash Adams with two technical falls, 9-0 (1:35) and 10-0 (1:33). One other wrestler won a stand-alone Greco crown, Headhunters’ Adam Petrov, on back-to-back forfeits from Alexey Dorodnitsyn (PGWC).

Bradford’s FS championship was earned in a round robin format, as most of the competitions were, with a 14-4 tech of in 1:39 of Daniel Veiga (Headhunters). In Greco, Bradford took down another Headhunter in Mehmet Kaya with an 18-10 count in 2:48 at 126/132 pounds.

Solis had a best of three showdown with Oxon Hill’s Ethan Howell in FS at 190 pounds and came up with a 10-0 tech in 1:11 and a fall in 1:46. Solis gained the Greco title just by being there as he was the lone entry at 190.

The Capital Wrestling Club had two reach the top of the FS podium in William McMurtrie (120 pounds) and Erik Luebke (285). McMurtrie’s round robin action delivered him the title with a 15-4 tech of PGWC’s Channing Branch in 3:57. Luebke walked to the top spot unopposed.

The unattached Landon Morris locked down the 150/165-pound FS gold when he blanked Nathaniel Lowe (Unattached) in 49 seconds with a 10-0 tally.

William Abboud of the Cavalier Wrestling Club won the only bracketed weight of the FS gauntlet at 132/144 pounds when he rolled to a 12-2 tech fall in 1:58 over Andrew Kimball (Unattached).
