Poly High School juniors Jaden White (132) and Derrell Davis (150) along with sophomore Miles Molina (113) and senior Ayden Paulay (165) are all returning Baltimore City champions for the returning city tournament runner-up Engineers.

The Engineers are 4-0 in the league and 12-9 overall under coach Wavie Gibson, who graduated from Mardela in 1982 as a 138-pound state champion.

“That 12-9 is with an asterisk. We have 30 kids on the team not including females,” said Gibson, whose 36 coaching seasons comprise 10 at Walbrook and 26 at Poly. “Since we don't have an official JV in the city, we rotate our line up in dual meet tournaments in order to make sure that everyone gets a match.”

Paulay has won a pair of city crowns and been a runner-up once, having also finished fifth at regions. White is a two-time city champion who has finished fourth and fifth at regions.

Davis has earned one city title in two championship berths and twice finished fourth at regions. Molina is a defending champion and a fourth-place regional place-winner.

Molina has a record of 20-1 with nine pins and four technical falls on the year, bringing his career mark to 49-13 with 25 pins. Molina has a record of 15-1 in tournaments, having gone undefeated at the Patterson Mills’ Husky Duals and 7-1 at last weekend’s Friars Duals at Archbishop Curley.

As a 106-pound freshman Molina won the city title and placed fourth at regions, ending with a record of 29-12 with 16 pins.

White’s record is 15-2 with 12 pins and a technical fall, and 66-22 with 54 pins for his career. White has a record of 11-2 in tournaments, having gone unbeaten at the Husky Duals and 6-2 at the Friar Duals.

As a 132-pound sophomore White placed first in the city and fifth at regions, posting a record of 27-12 with 22 pins. As a 120-pound freshman, White earned his initial city crown and was fourth at regions, ending the year with a mark of 24-8 that included 20 pins.

Davis is 17 and 3 with seven pins and two technical falls, having gone undefeated at 8-0 at the Friar Duals. Davis has a career record of 66-23 with 31 pins and two technical falls.

As a 132-pound freshman, Davis was a runner-up in the city who finished fourth at regions, ending with a record of 29-11 that included 17 pins. As a sophomore at 144 pounds, Davis once again finished fourth at regions after winning his first city crown, ending the year with a record of 20-9 that included seven pins.

Paulay has gone from being a 120-pound freshman to his current status at 165 pounds, where his 12-6 record includes nine pins, bringing his career mark to 71-22 with 27 pins.

As a 120-pound freshman, Paulay won his first city crown, ending with a record of 18-5 that included five pins. As a 145-pound sophomore, Paulay placed third in the city tournament, ending with a 19-5 record that included eight pins.

As a junior last season, Paulay earned his second city crown, ending his season with a mark of 22-6 that included five pins and a fifth-place finish at regions.

The Engineers visit Patapsco on January 16 followed by a city tri-meet with defending champion Digital Harbor and ACCE on January 22, and the Overlea Tournament on January 24.
