South Carroll tied its record eight champions from a year earlier among its milestone 10 finalists to win its fourth straight Carroll County Tournament at Westminster on Friday.
The eighth-ranked Cavaliers (212 points) overcame runner-up and 16th-ranked Manchester Valley (125) led by sophomore defending Class 2A-1A state champion JoJo Gigliotti (132), junior state runner-up Evan Owen (120) and sophomore state runner-up Grayson Barnhill (106), all of whom pinned their opponents to earn their second consecutive titles.
The Cavaliers' first-time title winners were freshmen Brody Henry (126) and Davy Snyder (138), sophomores Landon Hamper (165) and Anthony Rodrigues (175), and senior Decklen Logan (285).
The effort comes a week after the Cavaliers (27-0) earned their third straight Class 1A state duals crown at North Point High representing their 34th consecutive dual meet victory.
South Carroll finished at 33-1 last season, winning that crown with a 46-30 triumph over a Northern-Garrett County Huskies squad which entered at 25-0. Last year’s title-winning effort marked the Cavaliers’ seventh straight dual meet victory following a 36-25 loss on Feb. 2, 2023
On Friday, Henry and Logan won by falls, with Hamper and Snyder earning decisions. Snyder avenged an earlier loss with his 5-4 decision over sophomore Bradyn VanDerVoort of Manchester Valley, and Logan improved his record to 2-3 against Century senior Chidima Iziogo with a 93-second pin.
Finishing second for the Cavaliers was Angelo Marchany (144) and senior Kaden Cyrus (150). Marchaney lost, 3-2, to Liberty junior Dylan Ohler, and Cyrus was pinned in 3:49 by junior Chris Gaeng of Winters MIll.
Henry leads the Cavaliers with a record of 38-0, followed by Barnhill at 24-0, Gigliotti at 44-1, Hamper at 35-1, and Owen at 42-3. Rodrigues is 40-3, Snyder is 35-8, and Logan is 20-6.
Barnhill, Owen and Gigliotti were among eight a year ago as the Cavaliers totaled 228 points to eclipse runner-up Manchester Valley (179).
Last year's Cavaliers also received county titles from eventual three-time state champions Mike Pizzuto (145) and A.J. Rodrigues (160), two-time state title-winner Gage Owen (138), and state champ Rylan Moose (182) -- all of whom won their third straight county titles.
Then-sophomore Manny Rodrigues (195) was the eighth to win a county championship last year.
Other champions were Century sophomore Brayden Braswell (113), Winters Mill junior Chris Gaeng (150), Westminster senior Braden Vacca (157), Liberty sophomore Kevin Kern (190) and Manchester Valley junior Cru Boog (215).
Vacca improved to 43-1 by winning a battle of seniors, 11-6, over Century's Joey D`Orsogna. Kern raised his winning mark to 34-5 by avenging an earlier loss to junior Adam Knox of Francis Scott Key with his 6-5 decision.
Boog raised his record to 44-2 with a 10-3 victory over Liberty senior Dylan Rubin, and Braswell became the first champion for first-year head coach Zach Blessing with his 10-2 major decision over junior Jackson Rilley of Francis Scott Key.
