MSWA: Ladies First @ South Qualifier

The ladies shine at Archbishop Spalding during the final weekend of April as they work their way towards mid-May’s MSWA FRECO State Tournament. There is one last chance to get some mat time before the states this Sunday at Queen Anne’s High School.

All of the competed weight classes occurred in the 19U slate at Spalding with the three 16U titlists winning their crowns uncontested, Khloe Buckholdt (95 pounds), Catherine Orndorff (110), and Diamond Fish’s Fiona Ritchie (145 pounds), who also took third in the 19U field.

Orndorff was the only one to secure two gold medals. The Freestyle championship came on the back of a 1:11 decking of Kelani Ramos at 105/110 pounds. All the brackets were round robin unless noted otherwise.

At 115/120 pounds, Madison Birth (Mavericks Wrestling) posted a 10-0 technical fall of Quince Orchard’s Isabella Peluso in 1:44. Maryland Mat Monsters’ Emily Cabo stuck Alexis Nicolas 39 seconds into their meeting at 130/135 pounds.

Naima Harvey-Bowen was declared the 145/155-pound champ after pinning Delaware’s Breanna Brown in 4:13. Emma Higgs was the lone entry at 170 pounds. Oxon Hill’s Kamil Johnson took two in a row from Maryland Mana’s Natalia Grace Allen at 207 pounds, using an 11-0 tech in 2:33 and a fall in 2:01.
