MSWA: The Women Battled at Edgewood!

Hey Ladies! It’s time to get to that Freestyle thang. If you have any college ambitions, you best find your way to a Freestyle mat ASAP, as that is the discipline you will be dancing in after you leave the high school realm.

Now is the perfect time to engage and get a taste. The first MSWA Freestyle and Greco Roman Qualifier was this weekend at Edgewood High School, but there are more coming up in the near future, and the clubs are working the Olympic Styles now or “Freco” if you will.

The Outsiders were the insiders at Edgewood with their girls claiming five of the six contested brackets. There was not a Greco Division for the girls and just three contested situations in each style.

The Outsiders swept the 19U count with May Brownstein (115/120 pounds), Kryah Proctor (140/145), and Jasmine Brock (155) getting it done.

Brock received a bye. Brownstein had two differing outcomes in sweeping Headhunters’ Ashley Diaz. Brownstein won a high scoring, 16-6 tech, in their first meeting but then they battled it out to an 8-6 outcome in the second.

Proctor smothered her club mate, Gabriela Hernandez Trochez, equally in both matches posting a 10-0 and decking Hernandez Trochez, 3:39.

Two of Proctor’s Eastern Tech mates won 16U golds as Outsiders, Natalie Vance (105/115 pounds) and Sofie French (125/135).

Vance came up on the good side of a 6-1 decision over Maryland Mana’s Calleigh McBride. French took two straight versus Ryleigh Decker (TRC Cadets), by fall (1:38) and tech, 10-0 (1:33).

Capital City Wrestling Club’s Yael Wexler was the 16U 170-pound champ after sticking Annapolis’ Chloe Snavely, twice in lightning quick fashion, 34 and 28 seconds.
