Winters Mill wins 3rd straight

Winters Mill crowned 11th-ranked seniors Christina Padilla (100) and Alexa Hresko (105), as well as sixth-ranked senior Maiah Sweet (155) among seven finalists as the Falcons (137.5 points) edged second-place Francis Scott Key (132.5) for their third consecutive county championship.
"This is our third straight county championship," Coach John Fisher said. "We have won three out of the four county championships."
The Falcons also had a runners-up in junior Addison Main (105), senior Amelia Boddie (125) and freshman Jayla Carver (170), and added 110-pound second, third and fourth-place finishes from senior Carli Ireland, sophomore Alice Ecceleston and junior Kaitlyn Lemerise.
Also finishing third for the Falcons were sophomore Maria Acevedo (115) and sophomore Emma Loya (190), with fourth-place efforts from sophomores Sophie Kiler (120) and Ariana Minter (135) and senior Ahmya Gerald (140).
Sweet improved to 26-2 with her 82-second pin against Francis Scott Key sophomore Mackenzie Carr. Hresko scored a 27-fall over Main. Padilla won her title match by 12-2 major decision over Westminster senior Mya Beaver.
Sweet has 19 pins, Hresko has a record of 17-5 with 10 pins and seven technical falls, and Padilla is 26-11 with 15 pins.
"The county title came down to the last finals match up. It was competitive, exciting, and fun. This is how girls' wrestling should be,” Fisher said. “With many teams graduating their senior champions, I am looking forward to seeing how we rebuild and continue to grow women's wrestling in Carroll County.”
The runner-up Eagles crowned eighth-ranked junior Maddy Johnson (115) and 13th-ranked senior Emily Arboleda (190).
Johnson’s record is 16-3 following her 5-0 title match decision over Manchester Valley junior Isabella Snyder and decked senior title match rival Macy DeHaan of South Carroll in 5:38.
Third-place Manchester Valley crowned second-ranked senior Chloe Chang (135), third-ranked senior Addison Grubb (145) and fifth-ranked senior Brynn Ryan (130).
Chang is 23-0 after her 73-second pin against Francis Scott Key senior Lily Bertier. Grubb improved to 17-1 with her 89-second pin of Francis Scott Key senior Beatrice Howe.
Ryan has a record of 21-3 after decking Westminster freshman Micah Scott in 5:41.
Also boasting three title-winners was South Carroll in fourth-ranked junior Rhea Dupre (125), 11th-ranked sophomore Lexy Davis (120) and junior Maddy Tetlow (170).
Dupre has a record of 13-2 following her fall in 1:54 over Boddie, and Davis rose to 12-3 on the season with her fall in 1:47 against Francis Scott Key senior Bella Mazan. Tetlow took 83 seconds to finish off Carver.
Champions for Westminster were junior Scarlett Malinski (110) and sophomore Jasmine Lett (235). Malinski has a record 21-3 after pinning Ireland in 5:26, and Lett took 38 seconds to pin senior Ariah Myers of Francis Scott Key.
Century’s Ryleigh Gittermann (140) won a title match, battle of sophomores by a fall in 2:43 over 10th-ranked Abigail Nelson of Manchester Valley.
